Professor Guram Aleksidze is a distinguished Georgian researcher in the field of Plant Protection. His scientific works are published in international scientific journals, among them in journals with impact factor.
Prof. Aleksidze is the author of more than 200 scientific papers: 17 books, more than 10 brochures and articles. Some of the most well-known publications of his works are: “Grape Pests” ( 1976); “Destructive Pests and Diseases of Plants and Control measures Against them” (2001); “Protection of Grape from Harmful Organisms” ( 2009); “Plant Protection”, which was published twice by European Union in 2014 and 2016; “Mathematical Modeling of Bio-systems and its Application in Integrated Protection of Citruses” (2015); “Georgian Agro-biodiversity”, (Catalogue, 2015); “Fruit Pests and their Natural Enemies” and etc. The works of Prof. Aleksidze are cited by many scholars and appear on reference lists of international publications.
For many years, Prof. Aleksidze has been carrying out active and productive work at international organizations, such as, CGIAR, CACAARI, FAO, ICARDA, CIMMYT, Bioversity Int. and other.
Among other important merits, Prof. Alekside’s long and fruitful pedagogical career at higher educational institutions of Georgia should be particularly emphasized.
About 20 doctorate dissertations have been prepared and defended under his supervision. His doctorate students, including international specialists, are now working successfully at scientific research centers in Georgia and abroad.
The scientific works of Prof. G. Aleksidze mainly deal with integrated protection of agricultural crops from harmful pests and diseases, such as vine, citruses, fruit, and other crops. He is the one who laid the foundation to contemporary scientific approaches to those problems in Georgian agricultural sciences. At present, scientific research is being carried out under the supervision of Prof. Aleksidze, which studies application of mathematical modeling system in mutual dependence of harmful and useful pests, which is widely spread in agrocenosis. This approach has opened a new page in plant protection and he is a pioneer in this direction not only in Georgia, but also at international level.
Prof. Aleksidze is a very resourceful scholar and public figure and he is involved in a wide range of social and international activities. He is Chairman of the CACAARI Steering Committee , Head of Agrarian Commission of “Georgian Encyclopedia”, Vice – President of “Union of European Academies for Science Applied to Agriculture, Food and Nature”, and etc.
Academician Guram Aleksidze as a distinguished, famous scientific and public figure has been rewarded with Order of Honor and other international awards.
