GCARD - 2012. Under construction!
REFLECTIONS ON GCARD2
The participation in global event such GCARD2, where representatives from a wide range of organizations from more than 100 countries participated, was very exciting. I really felt myself as a member of a big society of researches and policy makers, the society which tries to sort out food security problems in the world.
The discussions were extremely rich, each one had an opportunity to contribute to the decisions made thought expressing ideas and sharing lessons learned. Food security issues were in a focus of all discussions and presentations. How to reach progress, how to implement the GCARD RoadMap in practice to meet smallholder farmers needs - these are the issues discussed and reflected in summary notes. From my point of view one of the most valuable outcomes of the GCARD2 is appreciation of a role of partnership and cooperation in implementation Research Programmes both on regional and global levels. The actions aimed at all aspects of food security including biodiversity sustainable us, technology, information and knowledge transfer have to be developed and agreed based on collective foresight analyses in order to ensure better understand future needs and identify priority needs.
Public, private and civil sectors have to be strongly linked to stimulate investments and returns to ensure their effectiveness.
All ideas and visions expressed on household nutrition factors, gender-based needs, creating attracting environment for young people to be involved into agriculture, linking farmers to markets, adapting to climate change impacts will find a reflection in national and global agricultural research programmes in the coming future to create sustainable and resilient agricultural production systems.
I would like to express to you my highest satisfaction and gratitude for having invited me to the GCARD 2012. Let me thank you all for organization of the global event, for invitation and for the very dynamic discussions in Punta del Este.
